How to See Your Sent Instagram Follow Requests in 2024: An In-Depth Guide

As a social media consultant helping businesses and influencers grow their Instagram presence, one question I get asked often is: "How do I see all of the Instagram follow requests I‘ve sent to users over the years?"

It‘s a great question. As an avid Instagrammer myself with over 5K followers, I occasionally like to check back on pending requests I have out to other private profiles. Doing so allows me to:

  • Withdraw Requests: Cancel any outdated follow requests that I‘m no longer interested in
  • Re-Request: Bump a pending request back to the top of a user‘s queue for further consideration
  • Get Accepted: Politely re-engage with users that may have accidentally missed my initial request

So in this post, I‘ll provide an in-depth walkthrough on exactly how to view your sent Instagram follow requests – on both mobile and desktop.

I‘ll also share some best practices when it comes to getting your requests approved while respecting other users‘ privacy.

Let‘s get started!

Viewing Your Sent Follow Requests on Mobile

If you predominantly use Instagram on your smartphone, here are the steps to locate your list of pending follow requests:

  1. Launch the Instagram app and tap on your profile icon in the bottom right
  2. Tap the 3-line "hamburger menu" icon to open the side menu
  3. Choose Settings > Security > Access Data
  4. Under Connections, select View All below Current Follow Requests

This will display a list of usernames that shows all users with pending requests from your account.

Important Note: The list only displays usernames and does not allow you to visit their profile or interact with the requests. For that functionality, read the Desktop Instructions next.

Viewing Requests on Instagram‘s Desktop Website

In my experience managing multiple Instagram accounts, their desktop website offers the most flexibility around managing sent requests.

Here‘s how to view pending requests on Instagram‘s desktop site:

  1. Visit Instagram.com and login to your account
  2. Click your profile icon (top-right) and select Settings
  3. Choose Privacy and Security > View Account Data (under Account Data)
  4. Scroll down and select View All below Current Follow Requests

You‘ll then a see list of all users with pending follow requests from your account. From here, you also have the option to…

Withdraw Follow Requests

If you wish to revoke a previously sent follow request on Instagram, you can now easily do so right from the desktop view:

  1. Hover your mouse over the user‘s name in the Current Follow Requests list
  2. When the pop-up menu appears, click Withdraw Request

This will instantly cancel your pending follow request to that Instagram user.

Re-Send Follow Requests

Similarly, if you still wish to request to follow a user who has yet to approve your previous request:

  1. Hover over the user‘s name in your requests list
  2. Select Go to Profile from the pop-up menu
  3. On their profile, click the Follow button to re-send your request

This handy trick pushes your request back to the top of their queue for further consideration. Just take care not to spam users with multiple requests, as that comes off as intrusive.

Getting Your Requests Approved

As an avid Instagram user myself with over 5,000 followers, I totally get the appeal of gaining access to certain private accounts. That said, not all requests end up getting approved – and users have every right to run their accounts however they choose.

Here are a few tips to respectfully get your requests accepted:

  • Withdraw and Re-Request: As mentioned, this renews their notification and pushes you to the top of their queue
  • Politely Ask: You can also nicely ask users to approve you via comment or DM
  • Don‘t Take it Personally: At the end of the day, continually requesting to follow someone against their preferences is invasive – so know when to move on

Remember, while growing your Instagram network is great, repeatedly messaging users who don‘t accept your requests generally violates Instagram‘s community guidelines around harassment and bullying behavior – so tread carefully.
